Our curriculum is developmentally appropriate, giving
children the tools, knowledge and confidence they need
to be successful. We have set high expectations for
learning and achievement.
The curriculum we use to teach phonics is
called Zoo Phonics. This program is based on the
idea that, “Letters and symbols are very abstract for
young children. The more abstract learning is,
the less the students understand and remember.
Zoo Phonics uses animals in the shapes of
lowercase letters before teaching the actual letters.
Sequentially, the child learns first the animal shapes,
then the merged animal-letters and finally,
when developmentally ready, the letters themselves”
Our classroom is set up with various learning centers.
A learning center is in addition to a student’s learning
environment. It provides an orderly experience in which
the student may grow independently at their own pace,
learn in their own manner, and at a level that is appropriate
in relation to their potential. Centers help the teachers
provide instruction at a variety of levels and skills.
